These days there is a lot of vitriolic commentary on web. Here's a vote for gracious commentary to build a list of fans.

The two magic words “thank you” can literally transform the success of your email marketing efforts, and this article will show you how you can use the power of gratitude to make the emails that you send out to your list more effective and profitable. Ever since 2003 there have been federal laws that prevent people from sending unsolicited email messages, however if you can get people to opt-in to a particular email list by choice then you are allowed to communicate with them by email.

Since this is the case and people will need to opt-in to your email list by choice, this means that they are not obligated to be on your email list at all. Instead of trying to send them blind offers and simply trying to get them to buy products without actually contributing any value to them, a much more effective strategy for long-term email marketing success is to be very grateful that these people have made the choice to sign up for your email list and try to provide them with as much value as possible.

The two most important words that you can use when communicating with your list of subscribers are “thank you.” When you are genuinely grateful that you have so many people who are willing to trust you and to give you access to their email inbox, you will not want to try to sell them something with every email but instead you will actually give away things of value for free. You might also make your email messages more personal by including stories from your own life.

The important point to realize here is that you want to build trust with your subscribers by being true to your word, and you are trying to build a quality relationship with as many people as possible instead of simply having as many subscribers on your email list as you can. While it can be important to focus on getting new sign-ups, it is even more important that you express your gratitude regarding the fact that each person has trusted you with their personal email address, and you let them know that this is a responsibility that you take seriously.

Think about the times when you might have made a purchase based on a recommendation that you got from an email. Was it from the very first email that this person sent you, when you had no relationship at all? Or was it after a period of time during which you got to know that person and see for yourself the value that they had to offer you. By making sure that you show your email list your gratitude and say thank you for being a subscriber, you will experience much greater long-term success and build better relationships.

Here are some really easy tips to increase the chances of people reading your blog posts and email. Tips for reader friendly blogging.

Reader friendly blogging is a soft meld between great content and page layout.

Keeping up with a newsletter (ezine) and a blog, as well as marketing a blog is a load of work. Don’t kid yourself. I’ve been in the situation where I’ll complete my email newsletter, but poop out on the blog. So I try to do more blog and run out of steam on the email newsletter.

People can stay connected to your blog with an RSS feed, but most people don’t use that feature. So I choose to send an introduction to my email news to readers and then redirect the reader to the blog post for the “rest of the story”. That should sound familiar.

Another reason I put the majority of my written material in the blog post is because I want to benefit from search engines by having my blog indexed. With some minimal effort the page will rank well for certain keywords. Once the reader is at my blog post I provide her with meaningful information. However, it helps to jazz up the page with some items to keep the reader interested.

Here are some tips to keep your reader engaged in your blog post.

Reader Friendly Blogging Tips

Why do some blog posts capture your attention while others are just plain hum drum?

Well there are actually many reasons. However, the most common reason is that some ezines or posts just aren’t interesting. Sure, the content is great but they’re likely missing that extra touch that holds a reader’s attention.

First and foremost, you need a title that generates curiosity or interest.

Your title in your email or blog post is the door opener. Once the reader has opened the door, then you want to keep their interest.

You can add interest to a newsletter or blog post by:

Including a photo or image

We’re a very visual species. We connect to one another visually. This is one of the reasons authors place their photo in the back of their books. It’s also a reason why articles with photos and graphics get read more often and shared. I always like it when the author is interesting to look at.

Format for reading online

Have you ever received a newsletter or visited a website where the content was just a long seemingly endless block of text? It’s impossible to read. And to be honest most people, myself included, tend to scan content first to determine whether I want to read it more closely or not. I can tell you that if it’s not friendly on my eyes I will not take the time to read it.

So what is “reader friendly?”

Bullets

Bold formatting to highlight key words and ideas

Space between sentences and paragraphs

An easy to read font

No distracting graphics or images. (I know I just said that graphics and images help add interest. However, they should also contribute to the goal or purpose of the content – not distract)

Personality

Your blog communication is a very unique opportunity to brand your business and connect with your audience personally. While you’re providing information you’re also connecting with your audience. Share stories with your readers. Relate to them with your challenges, experiences, and insight. Be yourself – you’re a very interesting person!

Consider also occasionally switching it up. Add a video to your newsletter. Include a free download. Let your subscribers in on a secret, a special promotion or unique information not available anywhere else. Make them feel appreciated and an important part of your community.

The last thing you want to experience is losing access to your auto-responder because of complaints of SPAMming. Here's how to keep out of hot water.

SPAM isn’t just something you don’t want to receive in your email in box, it’s actually illegal.

If you are using your email to stay connected to people on your list, you need to understand SPAM laws. The bottom line is if you lose permission to use your email/auto responder tool, you are up a creek without a paddle. It is very difficult to move subscribers out of a tool that you can’t log into because your service was terminated.

The simplest method to keeping out of trouble is to treat your list of subscribers with respect. Don’t send garbage information, don’t send too frequently and when you do send email, make it something valuable.

Many people have some misconceptions about what SPAM really is. It’s important for you to know what SPAM is and to take action to prevent being perceived as SPAM by your subscribers.

In order to avoid losing access to your auto-responder service, you need to understand what SPAM is.

What is Email SPAM?

SPAM is defined as:

“Unsolicited bulk email or ‘junk mail’.”

It’s an email message sent to you that you from a person or a company that you did not give permission to. You see, in order to send email messages to prospects you must have their permission. This is called permission based email.

Our SPAM laws stemmed from a need to stop the “adult industry” from sending email messages to everyone. Te Can-SPAM Act of 2003 was created to address the problem of people getting unsolicited solicitations. In fact, SPAM is actually an acronym for Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing.

The bill permits e-mail marketers to send commercial email as long as it adheres to three basic types of compliance defined in the CAN-SPAM Act: unsubscribe content and sending behavior compliance:

Basically, if you’re sending an email to a prospect or customer, you must:

Include an unsubscribe option in all emails and the system must be clearly visible and it must work!

You must honor consumer opt-out requests within 10 days.

You cannot sell or use the names of those people who opt-out or unsubscribe from your list.

You also need to make sure your content meets the compliance standards set forth by the act.

Each email message must have:

Accurate from lines

Relevant subject lines

A legitimate physical address of the publisher and/or advertiser is present.

A label is present if the content is adult.

Finally, you also need to adhere to a few email sending compliance guidelines. Including:

A message cannot be sent through an open relay

A message cannot be sent to a harvested email address – recipients have to have agreed to receive your message.

A message cannot contain a false header

The content is exempt if it consists of:

Religious Messages;

Political Messages;

National Security Messages.

Personally, I don’t understand why religious and political messages are free from compliance. I think special interest groups can account for those exceptions.

So What Happens if You Send SPAM?

You can actually be charged with a misdemeanor however, most often there is little or no legislative enforcement. But the search engines do pay attention and they can and do blacklist spammers.

Of course you have no intention of sending SPAM. The good news is that most email management systems and auto-responders walk you through the process of creating your newsletter so you are complaint. Aweber even offers a rating to let you know if your audience will perceive you as SPAM. This is a great feature.

Steve Shaw runs an article directory and provides excellent tips for creating and article that gets distributed and read.

Once you’ve done the keyword research for your website, you can then use those keywords strategically in your article submission campaign. By creating keyword focused articles, you’ll get much better results from your article marketing efforts by helping search engines to associate your website with particular keyword terms.

This article gives some quick article marketing tips on how to appropriately use your keywords in your article submissions:

1 – The Headline:

The purpose of your headline is to indicate the topic of your article.

Try to place the keyword phrase that you’re targeting at the beginning of your headline. This takes some thought–the goal is to create a headline that would capture the attention of your potential reader, but that also prominently displays the keyword phrase. The title also has to be grammatically correct and contain correct spelling.

The best SEO-friendly titles just look like a great title–no one should be able to tell that you have specifically crafted it with your keywords in mind.

Please note: In addition to the keywords you researched for your website, it’s a good idea to also do keyword research for the topics of your articles. The phrases associated with your article topics will naturally be longer, say 3-8 words long. They are more specific than the keywords that are associated with your website, but that makes them perfectly suited for article topics.

The main difference between these two types of keywords is that the ones you use in your title and article body are what you’d like the article to rank for, and the keywords you use in your resource box are the ones you’d like your website to rank for.

2 – The Article:

The topic of the article is determined by the title.

Try to repeat your keyword phrase in the first 5 sentences or so of the article, in a natural sounding way of course.

Then, just write naturally about your topic. Since the keyword phrase is closely related to the topic of your article, then variations of the phrase should appear naturally in your article. Don’t try to force it too much, and by all means don’t pepper your article with the keyword phrase.

The most important part about the article is that it is easy for a reader to understand and that it provides helpful information. So, focus on writing a well-written article that teaches your reader something. After carefully placing your keyword phrase in the 5 lines, don’t worry too much about how many times the keyword phrase appears in the article. It will show up every once in a while as you naturally write about your topic.

Also, it’s okay for the phrase to appear in different forms, for example, ‘race cars,’ ‘racing cars,’ ‘race car gear’, etc.

3 – The Resource Box:

The resource box is where you can tell a little about yourself and your business and where you can encourage the reader to click the link leading back to your website. This is also a great spot to put one of the keyword phrases that you’d like your website to rank highly for.

Many directories will allow you to create an anchor text link in your resource box. With an anchor text link, you can use your keyword phrase to form the link that leads back to your website. This helps search engines to associate that phrase with the topic of your website and can influence the search engine ranking for your site for that phrase.

Be sure not to use the same phrase each time though–you should have a list of keyword phrases for your website, and you can alternate those in your resource boxes. If you use the same phrase as anchor text each time, it can look suspicious to search engines, which could have negative SEO consequences for your website.

Let’s recap the main things to remember when creating an SEO friendly article:

=> Do your keyword research, and find phrases to target in your articles as well as phrases that you’d like your website to rank for.

=> Write naturally. The phrases that appear in your article should not be conspicuous or awkward sounding. They should just be a natural part of a helpful article.

=> Be sure to use proper spelling and grammar. This is necessary for the article to be published and also for readers to be able to understand what the article is saying.

After doing this a few times, writing an SEO-friendly article will be like second nature. You’ll become very skilled at creating content that’s useful to your readers, while at the same time crafting an article that will attract the attention of search engines.

————————

Steve Shaw has helped thousands of business owners worldwide build traffic, leads and sales to their websites, and he wants to help you do the same – grab his free report giving you a blueprint for attracting sustainable, dirt-cheap, long-term, targeted traffic to any website … including yours!

Building A Targeted Email List Using an Opt In Form

There are many different aspects to internet marketing and different ways that you can create sales and generate revenue, and one of the most popular is building and email list. Many people who do not understand what opt in email marketing is all about think that in order to make money by offering a product to an email list that you must be a spammer, when the truth is that you can actually create a lot of value for your subscribers.

There are laws that prevent people and companies from sending out unsolicited emails (which is called spamming), but if you can get people to willingly opt-in and give you their email address to be a subscriber then this is perfectly fine. After all, if something is relevant to your interests and you would like to know more about it then you will probably be excited to receive emails related to this topic.

When you are developing an online product to launch into your target market, this is usually a process that can take several months in order to finish everything. But during this time you will likely have created a large amount of original content either for your product directly or related to it, and this is the sort of stuff that you can use in order to build a preliminary email list that can help to make your product launch a success.

The trick to getting as many people as possible to sign up for your email list is to present them with something valuable that you are willing to give away for free, and the best option is to create a free offer that is so valuable that it becomes hard to say no to for people who are knowledgeable about your industry. This sort of an email list is going to be targeted and niche oriented, and if you have used some of the content for your product as a way to get people to sign up then you now have a list of people who you know are going to be interested in what you are offering.

This is a great position for you to be in because you have a great place to start when it comes time to finally launch and promote your product. But the key to making this strategy work as well for you as possible is to have your final product very closely related to the free offer that you presented in order to get them to opt-in to your list. Following this strategy with an email list can greatly improve the success of your product launch.

Are people not reading your email because you chose a lousy email marketing template?

Is using an email marketing template a bad idea? Starting an email marketing campaign takes a little planning. You have to think through your messages and schedule. However, once you have your strategy planned, the next step is to enter the messages. Once of the first choices you have to make is the email marketing template. Here are some considerations for choosing your email marketing template.

Using email as your marketing tool is an online marketing strategy proven to work to connect with your patrons and to keep them engaged. People will read their email when they won’t look at Facebook or Twitter messages. Engaging in social media activity isn’t always blessed by employers. People will refrain from using those social media venues, but they will use and read their email. Since they are more likely to open email, choosing the best email marketing template will help ensure they read the email.

Having a great headline helps to generate interest in reading your email. However, consider the various methods people use to read email. They may use a desktop or laptop computer. Tablets are fast becoming more popular and so are Smartphones. Each of these tools interact with email software differently.

Generally, when people read their email messages they are using an application like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. However, more frequently they are using a browser-based application. Browsers interact with the email format in different ways. Communication tools, like a Smartphone, have smaller displays and a browser or email reader that is different from PC based browsers.

Your goal is to get your reader to open the email and read your messages about an upcoming product release, sale or similar information. How will your reader’s email interface present your message to the reader? The assumption is that if you create the message, they can read it, but that isn’t always the case.

Email Marketing Template Dilemma

Auto-responder email marketing templates give a polished appearance to your message. The problem is that different message readers and browsers handle the code in these email marketing templates differently. Often the message ends up being skewed and mixed in with the HTML formatting code. The message ends up delivered to your reader’s display in a manner that is undecipherable. Totally not what you intended.

All the personalization that mail templates allow can also kill your message. The good news is that you can actually design your email template using an HTML and non-HTML format. Most people opt for the HTML format simply because of it enables them to create a more professional and visually attractive format. Unfortunately, that format may end up skewing your final message.

The simplest and most effective email marketing template is to use plain text.

Make your email marketing template more accessible to everyone on your list no matter what tool they use to read email. You can do this simply by sending your email in plain text format. Use simple text to deliver your message. Some autoresponder tools allow you to send a formatted message and a text message. This way people on your list can choose which format they prefer. That’s what I call customer focused email marketing. Sending them email messages using the format they choose!

One of the best ways to make money online is to target a specific niche and incorporate various Internet marketing strategies to get website traffic. Niche marketing works well with various business models including affiliate marketing, email marketing, and blogging.

The primary benefit to niche Internet marketing is it allows you to target a very precise group of people that are interested in what you have to say. You can actually take this a step further and target micro-niches which allow you to dig even deeper into Internet niche marketing.

A niche market is a subset of a larger market. As the Internet becomes more crowded niche marketing has become more valuable.

If you can find a targeted niche of people who want to hear what you have to say you have a real advantage over Internet marketers who are working in a broader market. This really is the primary benefit because it allows you to talk directly to the market who is interested in your message.

Niche marketing lets you get things done faster to make money quick. If you are trying to sell a product you’re going to be preaching to the people who already have an interest in your products.

You don’t even have to sell anything to do well with niche marketing. There are many websites that provide digital information and make their money strictly from Google Adsense.

With this affiliate program you get paid when people click on ads. You target a specific niche by building a site around longtail keyword phrases.

These have less competition and give you an opportunity to target specifically what people are searching for online. You then build webpages or blog posts around those keyword phrases.

Google matches advertisers to the theme of that page. They sell the advertising for you and pay you a percentage of it when someone clicks on that specific ad.

Email marketing is the perfect way to do niche Internet marketing. You can tie cost per action affiliate programs into this very well.

Your subscriber list is made up of people who want to receive information based on the theme of your niche. Many CPA offers are perfect to include the link in the message that you are mailing out.

When people complete the form from the CPA offer you make money. Believe it or not there are Internet marketers earning six and seven-figure incomes combining CPA affiliate marketing with niche email marketing.

Eliminating competition, and dealing directly with people who are interested in your products and programs, is the best way to make money online. Niche Internet marketing provides multiple ways to do that!

Planning out a series of email topics can be challenging if you don't break down the tasks. Here is one strategy for planning your email marketing campaign.

Can you imagine watching a football or basketball game that didn’t have a game plan? It probably would be very frustrating to watch and all of the armchair coaches would be incredulous at the play making and mistakes. The same goes for your email marketing game plan. You will benefit more from having a real game plan and schedule for your email auto-responder series.

The simplest way to begin is to divide up your email marketing schedule into months, weeks or days. It depends on your overall marketing plan and goals. If you are selling a book or infoproduct you may want to break out series into questions or topics covered in your product or book. Brick and mortar businesses often use a monthly calendar of events and emails to announce the events.

My Method for Planning This Series of Email Marketing Messages

I have to admit, I struggle with planning email marketing campaigns. Like everything I do, I get through the task better when I break it down into small chunks. Once completed I have a list of topics around which I’ll create brief messages. Don’t get overwhelmed with the task. Your goal is only to create a list of topics.

Here’s my process for creating a list of topics for messages.

1. I develop my email marketing strategy for a 3 month plan. This means I need 12 weeks of topics.

2. Initially I send out 3 or 4 messages right after a person subscribes to my list. Here is the schedule that I usually use for delivering information and marketing products.

Message 1: Immediate – Thank you for subscribing and any gift I promised in exchange for the subscriber joining the list.

Message 2: 1 Day following Message 1 – Introduction to the overall topic and a reminder why it’s important to the subscriber.

Message 3: 2 Days following Message 2 – Key point, something that delivers part of what I promised to the subscriber.

Message 4: 2 Days following Message 3 – More supporting information.

Message 5: 1 Day following Message 4: Another Key Point.

This completes week one. From now on I schedule messages for delivery every 4-7 days. Using this approach I need about 15 – 20 messages to build up the initial campaign lasting 12 weeks.

I also use the email marketing tool to build up enthusiasm for a new product release or to continue on with messages that support the original purpose. The messages that follow are scheduled for about every 7 – 10 days. 9 months x 2 or 3 messages each month = 18 -27 messages.

All together this campaign involved around 30 – 50 messages.

What About Selling?

I have 2 goals for using an autoresponder.

Develop a relationship with my readers.

Sell stuff.

If you are uncomfortable with #2 you need to stop wasting your time trying to make money online. Or offline for that matter. Sales is not a nasty 5 letter word. Of course, the idea is to sell something people value. Even the Pet Rock brought value to the buyer. It was a funny gift.

If you look at my emails, you will note that I invite the reader to visit a site that is selling something or a trial subscription of Aweber.

Some people alternate soft sell with hard sell. My style is mostly soft sell. If people aren’t ready for an auto-responder tool like Aweber, or they aren’t interested, that’s ok. My goal is to get a tool in your hands that works and to make some money recommending a tool I believe in. If you aren’t ready for it now, perhaps you will be later on. Plus, I now have a way to introduce new products to you.

How to Handle Special Announcement Within Your Email Marketing Program

Now you may be wondering what to do if you want to deliver a special announcement. This is called a broadcast announcement. It’s different from the other messages as it goes out to all subscribers at the same time. The schedule above goes out to subscribers as they join your list. By all means, be sure to select an email marketing tool that allows you to broadcast.

Online marketers tossing out their email marketing in favor social media strategies are forgetting this core marketing rule.

Facebook, Twitter, Digg, LinkedIn are all social media methods used to connect with the marketplace. Sure, there are plenty of people using Twitter and Facebook only for personal communications, but savvy marketers understand how much leverage there is to social media.

No argument that social networking has successfully connected the individual to the World. Businesses can quickly connect with prospects using Facebook and Social Media. In fact, there are plenty of people out there proposing that email marketing is dead as an online marketing tool.

To that I say, B-O-L-O-G-N-A. Sure social media marketing is gaining speed and recognition as a superior form of connecting with prospects, but many internet marketers are neglecting the proven strength of email marketing.

First, I’ll share why I love email marketing. Email marketing is also referred to as email newsletter or enewsletter marketing. This mode of online marketing helps a new or established business accomplish many goals. The key is to establish a goal for your email marketing program. This goal directly relates to one of the 3 online marketing goals.

Why email marketing is still a valid tool for online marketing. I’ll even share why email marketing solutions will never be replaced by social media marketing tools.

Reasons to Love Email Marketing and Newsletters

Reason #1: Ezine marketing is relatively quick. You plan a campaign, create brief messages, upload the messages into your autoresponder, set the distribution times and go back to work. Set it and forget it. When the day arrives for an email newsletter distribution, the email is sent distributed automatically by your autoresponder tool. So one great reason email newsletters make good business sense is that they are quick to implement and then automatic after the initial setup.

Email marketing campaigns are distributed quarterly, monthly, weekly or even daily. Depending on the goal and the audience, a daily campaign may be way too much. A dental professional may set up a monthly newsletter, an stock tip newsletter or online marketer weekly, and a financial consultant would probably choose quarterly.

The campaign has a primary goal and probably some sub-goals. It may surprise you, but the primary goal is never to “sell stuff.” A dentist may establish an ezine newsletter to communicate the most common mouth ailments or causes of oral cancer. Her monthly email marketing newsletter describes these and provides preventive methods.

Reason #2: Performance tracking. Most autoresponders track performance and report on the number of emails opened. You can see what links they clicked on and depending on how you structure your enewsletter you may even be able to track which articles they read and how long they read them. I would avoid auto-responders that don’t provide reports or limit the number of lists you can have.

Reason #3: Profits. There are many ways to profit directly from an ezine. The first is of course to promote your own sales, deals coupons, products and services. If you are an affiliate marketer, you can link to other products that you earn comm products and sell advertising space in your ezine. Do you have a joint venture with another online or offline business. Use your email marketing service to communicate upcoming product launches or events offered by your partner.

Reason #4: Email marketing is very cost effective. Ezines cost next to nothing to produce and deliver. The auto-responder I use only costs me a few dollars each month for a service that I would have to hire another person to perform. I can have thousands of subscribers and spend less than a dollar a day on your entire list.

Reason #5: It works. Ezines and email marketing messages just work. There’s great power in getting permission to email a prospect. When you send them valuable information your audience is more likely to buy from you. You establish many of the key buying triggers and increase your credibility and authority. You can build a community of raving fans. When you share, people want to give back. That’s called reciprocity and it is a very powerful trigger in marketing.

I promised to share with you why email marketing will never be replaced by social media marketing strategies like Twitter and Facebook. Here it is.

Why Social Media Will Never Replace Email Marketing

When you focus only on using Social Media as your only marketing too, you forget one basic rule of marketing. Remember who your target audience is. If they use Facebook and Twitter exclusively then they may not read your email, but how many people in your target market don’t rely on Facebook and Twitter for communications? The vast majority of consumers still rely on email and will continue to even while social media becomes more and more popular. There are just some communications that require more than 140 characters. Facebook messages are easily lost in the stream of incoming messages. They are difficult to refer back to. Email messages are easy to find and will stay in you inbox as long as you keep them.

If you’re not currently using an ezine to build and grow your business, consider starting one today. Click here to learn more about how to easily create a very powerful email marketing strategy with a powerful email autoresponder solution.

Here’s one business owners thoughts about managing her email marketing with an autoresponder tool.

Internet Money-Making Explained – Managing Your Business Email List With Auto Responders

By Moira Wight

Even as a newcomer to internet marketing, you will probably have heard the expression that the money is in your business email list. This therefore means that anything to do with your list is important to the success of your internet money-making endeavors and it would be wise to make sure that you really understand everything to do with building your list of interested subscribers.

Managing your business email list is done with the help of an autoresponder service of which there are many available. You can find them just by doing an internet search. One such autoresponder service is called AWeber.

So what is an autoresponder then? An autoresponder is an email marketing service which allows you to create an opt in form which can then be placed on your squeeze page or other sites. This opt in form is a form into which interested prospective subscribers can place their names and email addresses in order to receive a free compelling offer.

The autoresponder service also offers you, as the user, the ability to send out follow up and broadcast messages to the subscribers on your business email list. Once you sign up to one of these services you can then load up the service with follow up messages which will then be sent out in a way that you determine. These follow up and broadcast messages are the way in which you carefully build a relationship with and connect with the members of your email community. As soon as a visitor opts into your list the autoresponder automatically sends out the messages you have loaded into it.

This is also the method which you use to promote relevant products and services to your list. Market research has been done when it was found that subscribers take an average of seven messages before they are willing to trust the list owner enough to make a purchase. This statistic shows that it is crucial to stay connected with your list if you wish to earn an income online.

Using an autoresponder service to build your list in this way is a form of what we call permission based marketing. When a visitor gives you their name and email address they are in effect giving you their permission to market products related to your free offer to them. You need to take care to market to them in a way that establishes a good relationship with them so that they do not ever withdraw that permission and unsubscribe from your list.

As you can see, an autoresponder service is one of the most important tools you need to purchase to ensure the success of your internet money-making system.
